Vegan Donuts!!!!!

While out and about today, Emma and I stopped in at a Whole Foods that we’ve never been to before. It isn’t close to our house, but since we were out that way already, I just decided to do our grocery shopping there instead of making a special trip to the one that is by our house.
I was pleasantly surprised that this Whole Foods had TONS of vegan and gluten-free pastries and cookies. They also had a juice bar!! While we were shopping, I “enjoyed” a celery, carrot and parsley juice. This juice was pretty intense– they had just juiced some ginger prior to making my juice and while the guy offered to clean the machine, I said it was okay. A little ginger is okay, but this was a little more than I expected. Oh well.
In the bakery section, I found not one, not two, but THREE vegan donut flavors!!!!!!!!!! I was SO SUPER HAPPY that I bought all 3 flavors to try.
Crumb:
My favorite by a mile. Sweet and tasty, but it left a weird aftertaste in my mouth and a weird slimy feeling on my teeth. Must be all that sugar…
Cherry:
Essentially a cake donut with a cherry glaze on top. If you look closely, you can probably see chunks of real cherries in the glaze. It was good, but didn’t taste anything like cherries. It just tasted really sweet.
Blueberry:
Like the cherry, it didn’t taste anything like blueberries. But it was good. Cakey and sweet.

Oh wow, those donuts look amazing! I may have to go to Ronald’s soon for some vegan donuts!
They were good, but what I’m really craving is a glazed donut. Not a cake-style donut, but one that’s chewy and gooey.
Am I the only person who doesn’t shop at WholeMart? http://www.slate.com/id/2138176/
Which Whole Foods?
Have you tried their vegan cupcakes in a pack of 4 for I think 6 dollars. To die for.
The one in Campbell.
I have not. I’ve actually never seen any vegan donuts at the one near my house. Maybe I’m just not looking hard enough.
Interesting article. In my dream world, I would live on a sustainable farm, grow my own fruits and vegetables and regularly bake my own bread. I don’t shop at WF regularly, but they are the only store within 30 miles of me that regularly carries some of the vegan products that I like to buy. For produce, I typically shop at the permanent farmer’s market near me. If I could, I would shop at Rainbow Grocery in SF, but I can’t really justify driving that far for groceries whenever I need them. I even tried asking my local health food store to carry some of the stuff that I like and, while they can special order certain items, they just don’t have the selection that WF offers.
You should try the vegan donuts if you’re ever in the Seattle area at Mighty O. Those are rad. So are the packaged ones that you can buy at veganessentials.com. They truly taste like the old fashioned donuts.
I have my friend in Seattle mail me Mighty O every once in a while. But for that you need good friends…
Great tip! Thanks. We recently went to Salt Lake City on a mini-vacation and were torn between going there and Seattle. Since we’ve been to Seattle, we opted for SLC. I do want to check out the vegan scene in Seattle, though. Someday…
