My copy of The Joy of Vegan Baking
I’ve contacted both the author and the publisher to let them know that my copy (and maybe others who haven’t thought to email them) is falling apart and they need to fix it for the future. An automated response has already come back from the author:
Thank you so much for your email. Because of computer-related arm pain, I’m forced to reduce my time on email. I regret that I may not be able to reply to your message, but please know that I have received it and appreciate the time you have taken to write.
Maybe she won’t even read it… who knows?! We’ll see what the publisher says about this. These books are expensive, ya know?! The binding should be able to withstand normal use. Sersiouly, has this happened to anyone else?
UPDATE: The publisher wrote back and has offered to replace my copy! Woohoo!!!
I don’t have a copy myself, but yes, those books definitely fall apart! I was looking at one in the bookstore that appeared brand new, but the binding was already loose. When I was thinking of buying one, I went onto Amazon to read the reviews and there were others with this problem, so I hesitated. Awesome that they sent you a new copy though!
I also emailed the photos of my book all destroyed, so I wonder if that helped at all. In her email back to me, she made it sound like this faulty binding was something they had never heard of before. Either she’s not being truthful or no one else has brought it to their attention… I guess it always pays to let people know when you have a gripe! I just hope the new copy doesn’t fall apart like my old one did.
That sucks your book fell apart, but awesome they’re replacing it for you!
If the margins have enough space you should think about taking it somewhere to get spiral bound. That way it can lay perfectly flat, and because you can fold it in half it’ll take up half the counter space!
