Halloween!

I love Halloween. It’s my favorite holiday. Here are some pics of things that I’ve made this Halloween, as well as some pics of my butterfly fairy. My edible “blood” recipe is also included below.
Creepy Halloween Cupcakes:
Edible “Blood” Recipe:
Corn Syrup
Red Food Coloring (use the gel food coloring available at cake and craft stores. The liquid stuff from the grocery store will thin it out too much).
Cocoa Powder
Combine the corn syrup and the food coloring until it is the color that you want it. Add cocoa powder, a little at a time until the desired opaque-ness and consistency is reached.

How did you make the gumpaste swirls? They are so cute! I have been attempting this, and am having alot of trouble. What kind of wire did you use, and how did you get the gumpaste to bend with wire without cracking/getting deformed?
I think in that cake, I just used bamboo skewers at the base of the gumpaste. I basically roll a “snake” of the gumpaste, insert the skewer, then shape it into the form I want. To dry, I place them on a bed of cornstarch or powdered sugar so that the end that’s laying down doesn’t get flattened. After a few days drying time, you can stick them into a piece of styrofoam so that they’re upright and then you can use a paint brush to dust off any cornstarch that is still stuck to them. There’s no wire or anything inside the swirl– it’s just hardened gumpaste. Once it dries, it’ll hold whatever shape you have formed it into.
