Emma’s Weekend Meals

We had two birthday parties this weekend and I didn’t really have a whole lotta time to do any cooking.
Saturday
For breakfast, she ate two bowls of cereal and all of her fruit except the apple.
Lunch was served very early because the party started at 1 pm and we had to sneak a nap in first. She ate the apple, peas (her favorite!), and the rice. She wasn’t into the peanuts this time.
Sunday
To take with us to the birthday party, I packed half of a mini kale pizza (I make about 6 at a time and freeze them), some grapes and some edamame. She will only eat the edamame still in the little pod because she likes to squeeze the beans out herself. At the party, all she ate was a skewer of grapes and a little piece of pizza. There was too much going on, so I didn’t force her to eat more even though I knew she had to be starving.
She licked off all the frosting and handed me back the cake. The best part was that the host made cupcakes for all the kids instead of a cake, so Emma didn’t stand out at all. No one even noticed that she ate a homemade cupcake instead of the ones served at the party. This was good because I feel like I should relax a bit for birthday parties and just let her eat what the other kids are eating (aside from meat). But then again, this totally goes against my principles and it would send conflicting messages. Any thoughts about this? Has anyone else had to deal with this yet? I don’t want other people to think she’s weird or different.
Anyway, she didn’t eat much at the party and fell asleep in the car on the way home. She napped for about 4 hours (I told you we had a busy weekend) and woke up pretty hungry. She ended up eating everything that was left from lunch plus more edamame and the other half of the pizza. She must be growing– this is totally unusual for her.

You’re doing such an amazing job with Emma’s meals. Everything looks as cute as it does delicious! I love that she ate two bowls of Trader Joe’s O’s – they’re my favorite!
Seems like you had a super-busy weekend – try to take some time to relax this week!
Emma IS different, so there is no reason to expect people to not notice. Don’t assume they will judge this as wierd, though…assume they conclude she is lucky. She’s not eating something truly wierd like chicken beaks or something! Be true to your principles, Maida, and by being creative, I know that Emma will thrive.
